4Science: New Features for DSpace CRIS/GLAM and DSpace 7

From Claudio Cortese, 4Science During the first months of the year, 4Science continued to develop new functions for DSpace-CRIS andDSpace-GLAM, as well as a submission module of the new Angular interface for DSpace 7.

Through the integration with GROBID Library, DSpace-CRIS now leverages machine learning technologies for extracting information directly from PDF publications. Metadata such as title, authors, abstract, keywords, identifiers, source, etc. are extracted through parsing of uploaded full-text.

One of the aspects that has always characterized DSpace-CRIS is the adherence to international standards related to Research Information Management. DSpace-CRIS is now compatible with OpenAIRE Guidelines for Data Archives version 4 (coming soon), based on Datacite schema 4.1. Moreover, references to projects and funding information can be retrieved and automatically imported from OpenAIRE via webservices. These developments are among the results of the OpenAIRE award to 4Science announced here.

With regards to the new DSpace-CRIS/GLAM functions, entities management has been improved, allowing delegate administration. In addition, it is now easier to discover and claim existing profiles, reducing the risk of profile duplication.  Finally, as already known to the DSpace Community, a project carried out together with Hasselt University (Belgium), led to the development of the submission and workflow module of the new Angular interface for DSpace 7, presented within the DSpace 7 Working Group (slides available here,  video available on You Tube).
