For Your Repository Viewing Pleasure: U of Pittsburgh Library System–Window on the World in Western Pennsylvania

The University of Pittsburgh Library System is the 26th-largest academic research library in North America providing innovative services and stunning digital collections that include books, manuscripts, historic documents, images and more.

The industrial and cultural past of Western Pennsylvania encompasses steel industry history and is well-represented in Pitt's University Library System (ULS). Among many significant holdings ULS owns a rare, complete set of John James Audubon’s Birds of America. Only 120 complete sets are known to exist. At the Birds of America web site users may browse 435 plates and view details of these exquisite images.

The set was purchased by William M. Darlington in the nineteenth century and later donated to the University as part of his extensive library.
