Report from the DC Region Fedora Users Meeting

Ithaca, NY On October 14, 2011 the DC Region Fedora Users Group held their semi-annual meeting in Washington, DC to exchange information on formative Fedora repository projects and inititatives. While highlights included lunch from the Hula Girl Truck ("bringing a taste of the Hawaiian Islands to DC") 13 projects and 38 attendees were on hand to share updates about how Fedora repository software is being implemented in government and cultural institutions.

CALL for Stories: Have You Had Your Heart Broken by Data Loss?

Washington, DC The National Digital Stewardship Alliance (NDSA) Outreach group wants to collect stories about data loss and preservation. If you've had your heart broken or uplifted by data loss or preservation, please fill out the form at http://j.mp/datastories, and/or please pass on the call for stories below. Distribute widely, as they used to say on listservs! There's no deadline, but we'll probably be taking a look at what we get in November.

CALL for Proposals to Host Open Repositories Annual Conferences, 2013 and 2014

Dublin, Ireland The Open Repositories Steering Committee seeks proposals from candidate host organisations for the 2013 and 2014 Open Repositories Annual Conferences. Preference will be given to North American hosts for OR2013, and to European hosts for OR2014. Proposals from all geographic areas will, however, are given consideration.

Important Dates

The Committee is accepting proposals to host OR2013 through October 28, 2011. Please submit initial expressions of interest by October 7, 2011.

CALL: Qualitative and Quantitative Methods in Libraries International Conference (QQML2012)

Limerick, Ireland Submissions are invited for the the Fourth Qualitative and Quantitative Methods in Libraries International Conference (QQML2012), to be held May 22 - 25, 2012, in Limerick, Ireland. The Fifth QQML 2013 International Conference will be organized in Rome, Italy.

How “Big” are DSpace Repositories?

Ithaca, NY Determining how many resources will be managed in an institutional repository is a key point in determining how to set it up and which technologies to use. A discussion on the DSpace users list provided information about DSpace repositories with large numbers of items. The discussion began with the simple question, "Anyone know what is the largest repository of DSpace and how many items it has?"
