Winchester, MA  Though unafilliated with the successful Public Library of Science (PLOS), the new Open Library of Humanities (OLH) initiative has been inspired by the PLOS open megajournal model–if the sciences can do it why not the humanities and social sciences? A Preservation and Archiving Special Interest Group (PASIG) Boot Camp Webinar: Digital Preservation in Theory and Practice

Mountain View, CA  On February 12 8:30am PT  "Digital Preservation in Theory and Practice" PASIG will offer the first in a series of monthly webinars aimed at sharing PASIG content and insights beyond the annual meeting (the next meeting will be held May 22-24 in Washington, DC).

Fedora—A Repository for the Future: New Fedora Initiative Underway

A group of stakeholders from the Fedora community have come together to begin the process of planning a three year software development project that will direct new resources toward a major Fedora overhaul, adding capabilities that will make Fedora the repository platform of choice for the future.  The group anticipates that improvements will include features such as greater scalability, data management support, storage flexibility, and others the community has been requesting. This new initiative is being called Fedora Futures.
