Smithsonian Institution to Host DC Fedora Users Meeting Jan. 18

Washington, DC Thornton Staples, Director of Research and Scientific Data Management, Office of the CIO, Smithsonian Institution, has announced that the Smithsonian Institution will host the next Fedora Users Meeting as part of an occasional series of Fedora Users meetings for the Washington DC region, which includes Maryland and Virginia. All of you in Charlottesville and Baltimore, please take note! Anyone else is welcome as well, but the goal of these meetings to bring people from the greater DC region together to see if we can get some collaboration going.

Fedora Repository Source Code Now Available on GitHub

Ithaca, NY Chris Wilper, Technical Lead, Fedora Repository Project, DuraSpace has announced that the Fedora Commons Repository source code has been fully migrated to GitHub, where you can collaborate with others, fork, send pull requests and manage public and private git repositories using a fast, efficient, distributed version control system ideal for the collaborative development of software. Currently 500,000 people hosting over 1,502,000 git repositories.

Get Ready for Webometrics Repository Ranking Data Collection

Ithaca, NY Before continuous tone photography, and way before there were instant digital capture devices for recording and processing digital images, there were engravings. The process of using sharp tools (gravers) to incise an image on a metal or glass plate so that a reverse print of that image could be created by spreading ink on the plate and pressing paper into the inked design is known as engraving. This method of recording images was used extensively in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to illustrate the news stories of the day.
